Candlesand kerosene and oil lamps are still some of the most common options for basiclighting, with dry cells and automotive batteries used to power radios,televisions, and small appliances. These sources are low-quality, cumbersome,expensive, and often dangerous, but theyare the only available options to rural families, small farmers, businesses,and institutions.
